Melanoma staging — AJCC 8 clinical

Enter the Breslow thickness, ulceration status and N/M categories to derive the AJCC 8th edition T-category and clinical stage group.

Staging scopeClinical cTNM output

This calculator uses the AJCC 8 clinical stage grouping adopted by NICE NG14. Clinical cT1bN0M0 is stage IB, but pathological pT1bN0M0 is stage IA after pathological nodal assessment; use the histopathology report and MDT record for final pTNM documentation.

Tool safetyClinician-support only

This tool supports guideline lookup and documentation. It does not replace MDT discussion, histopathology review or clinician judgement. Confirm staging on the histopathology report; local Cancer Alliance pathways take precedence.

Implications

  • Wide local excision margin and SLNB discussion follow NICE NG14; do not offer SLNB for stage IA.
AJCC 8 clinical (cTNM) stage group derived from Gershenwald et al. CA Cancer J Clin 2017;67:472–92 and NICE NG14, which remains based on AJCC 8 / UICC TNM 8.
Important. This calculator is an educational aid for UK registered healthcare professionals. It does not constitute medical advice, is not a medical device and must not replace clinical judgement. Always verify inputs and cross-reference the referenced primary guideline. Treatment decisions must be individualised within a multidisciplinary team.
